Job Training and Placement & Technical Assistance Programs

The Mayor's Business Action Team can help you identify a variety of job training and placement programs, as well as sources for technical business assistance.

Philadelphia Workforce Development Corp (PWDC) is a private, nonprofit organization offering comprehensive employment and training programs. PWDC provides companies with recruitment and referral services as well as customized and on-the-job training for new employees at no cost to the employer. PWDC works closely with Philadelphia Community College to provide job training services.

Recruitment Services: Helps employers fill workforce vacancies by recruiting, prescreening, and referring qualified applicants.

Customized Training: Enables an employer to develop a training or retraining program geared toward the company's needs. The employer targets specific occupations where skilled labor is needed and identifies those skills necessary to perform the job. A training program is then developed by the employer and PWDC in order to teach the skills required for the specific occupation.

On-the-Job Training: Allows an employer to receive training assistance for newly hired employees. Working with PWDC, the employer identifies the skills required to perform the job and develops a training program focusing on the needed skills.

Greater Philadelphia Works: This program offers numerous advantages to business who hire public assistance recipients. The program's key features include wage subsidies, retention services and tax credits.

Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania. This nonprofit corporation promotes economic development and competitiveness in Southeastern Pennsylvania through technology and innovation. As part of the statewide Ben Franklin Partnership, Ben Franklin supports the development of technology based enterprises through a portfolio of investments and client oriented service programs.

The Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Center (DVIRC). The Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Center (DVIRC) is a private, nonprofit economic development corporation working to improve the competitiveness of small and medium-sized manufacturers in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
